Happy Friday, faithful readers! How are you coming along with keeping your bagua clean? I took the opportunity to sage my house, to get all the negative energy out! I feel great!
This week, we attack the dreaded garage. I feel like I am right there with a lot of you on this one, friends. My dilemma is a bit more complex, because the garage to my house isn’t technically MY garage, it is my landlord's. This leaves me torn for several reasons… but I have decided to join you all in getting my hands dirty and cleaning up one of our many living areas. A lot of stuff in my garage has been left behind from previous tenants, but this will give me a good opportunity to learn from experience, and this will help me help you! Let’s dive in…
Make a Date! The weather is getting nicer, so any Saturday or Sunday will do! I am guessing if you have a garage, you have a driveway? My thought on this is to get in there, and start hauling everything into the driveway! It seems like a good idea to have a “donate” pile, a “keep” pile, and a “to be decided” pile. Keep in mind while separating, that the latter of the three piles will HAVE to be decided by the end of your deadline, so choose wisely, Grasshopper…
Oh, yes… you should probably have a “trash” pile, too! Personally, I can tell you that a lot of things in my garage fall into this category… but, before you jump to any conclusions about what is truly “garbage”, let me plant this seed for your thoughts… please try to RECYCLE what you can! At this point, Make A Plan! Keep in mind… One man’s trash is definitely another man’s treasure! For instance…
My garage is full of empty paint cans from previous tenants. Like, a LOT of paint cans. No kidding. Here in Tiny Town, we recycle what we can, and dispose of what we can’t recycle properly so it doesn’t end up in a landfill. This means: Paint cans that have dried, unusable paint in them can be disposed of in the trash. If they still have liquid paint in them, they MUST be recycled on hazardous waste recycling day at the Recycle Center.
My suggestion? If you have liquid paint that is still usable, post an ad on Craigslist (or here in town, Swidjit). A lot of painters are looking for paints to use that they don’t have to pay full retail for, and you may be able to make a couple bucks in the meantime! There is even one person who collects old Krylon (and other) spray paint cans! Even if you aren’t looking to get any money for them, someone may be able to use them, and it saves you a trip to the Recycle Center!
Job well done so far! I attacked my garage as well and got 2 bins of recycling, a big pile of scrap metal for my junk guy, and 3 cans of garbage out so far! We will continue next week... The Dreaded Garage Part 2!
